Flora
Europaea where the taxon is considered as a synonym of
Saxifraga rotundifolia L.
| |
This taxon is very problematic, being considered as
a species or a subspecies by the Romanian and Balkan naturalists and
a mere variety by other authors. At a first sight the subspecific
characters are quite clear: larger and fewer flowers, a different
pattern of the spots on the petals and the stems are not densely
patent hairy at the base. However, investigations upon the
populations of the two taxa are necessary to see what the real
taxonomical level to be considered realistically should
be.
